Before you read about the Merlin Ride, may I focus your attention on the season starter:  'The Daffodil Classic Sportive', Sunday 28th Feb 2010.  For more information and booking please visit the web site:  www.thetwofatcyclists.co.uk

If you are traveling and require quality accommodation within Carmarthenshire. please follow the below link. http://link.vcab.com/?HG09 .  If you have any specific requests, camp sites etc, please contact us and we will be delighted to direct you.

Merlin Ride, general information and entry list:

The Merlin Ride event consists of four seperate rides, Towy, Druid, Cothi and Merlin.  Each designed to meet most cyclists abilities.

Purchase via phone and credit card on 01269 845656 or 01554 756603, by post and cheque made payable to Merlin Cycle Sports Ltd, County Cycles, Llandeilo Road, Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, SA14 6RD or call into County Cycles or Merlin Cycles, Millennium Coast Park Visitors Centre, North Dock, Llanelli.   Merlin Entry Form 2010.doc

HQ for the 2010 event is once again The National Botanic Garden of Wales, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, SA32 8HG.  Working with Carmarthenshire County Council and Hywel Dda Health Board our intention is to raise the profile of cycling in Carmarthenshire, promote exercise and the benefits of a healthy life style and most importantly to raise money for the Macmillan Cancer Support and Wales Air Ambulance.

The event would not be possible without the very valued support of our marshals, Carmarthen and District Motor Cycle Club and Dyfed Powys Police.

The event will be timed by Timewise, this means that you will given your time as read off a large clock located at the finish.  This system of time control is similar to that used in triathlons, marathons and many other major events.  We do not presently provide microchips for each bike.  Please visit www.timewise-events.co.uk for more information.

New for 2010 is the Towy Ride, a 23 mile loop with all left turns.  Riders will start with main field and return on B4300 through the Towy Valley.  This will be an excellent ride for those wishing to participate in a large sportive but without the requirement of a high level of fitness, perfect for the younger or older rider.

Druid Ride 50 miles: a fantastic 50 mile route, two feed stations with all the drama of crosssing over the Black Mountain (Brecon Beacons West).  This ride has a considerable following with riders times of around 3hours 15minutes.

Cothi Ride 70 miles: Probably the best 70 mile ride around, beautiful scenary and enough climbing to suite most riders.  With three feed stations and High 5 everywhere.  Some riders returned very respectable times of 3 hours 30 minutes, but average was around 5 hours. Remember this is not a race Mr. Bowen!

Merlin 104 miles.  New route with another big hill, not for the faint hearted!  5 feed stations.  The ride gets very demanding along the A475 between Llanybydder and Llandysul, with several steep short climbs and very fast descents.  You will require a high level of fitness and be at your best to take this on. 'Are you good enough? Bet your not!'

Three jerseys were awarded for the 09 event:

The winners were:

No 31 Nigel Annett, Brecon, first over 50 years to complete 123miles

Will Worrel, Towy Riders, first under 18

No 135 Ceri Daffydd, Stroud, last rider in from 123miles

We expect to see the jerseys on 4 July 2010.  Congratulations to the three of you.

Photographs of last years can be viewed through the below link.  Paul Hughes our photographer has given his services to the ride free of charge, he will however charge you for a picture, but will also make a 20% donation to our charities for each picture purchased.  Come one, you know you want one.  Do it for Wales Air Ambulance or Macmillan Cancer Support.
